Your Brand is You

The core of your personal brand is… you! That looks obvious but not too many of us know it. Your personal brand is as any other brand - you have to found it and to build it. Strong brands win, weak - lose. So if you want to achieve whatever you’d like, you have to build a strong personal brand.
1. Target Image
Your name is the representation of you and your personal brand. You are the one who has to decide what to put behind that name. Ask yourself what is your target image? What do you want to be known for? State your target image on a sheet of paper and follow it all the time, every day, every minute, with everyone.
The best way to define your target image is to look inside and find your real self. What are your talents, your dreams? What is your purpose in life? Why are you here, on the Earth? This is a hard task, though. Everyone of us ask ourselves the same questions?
I, personally, recommend the book of Robin Sharma - Discover Your Destiny with the Monk Who Sold His Ferrari: A Blueprint for Living Your Best Life. Read it, it can help.
2. Target Audience
Decide what will be the audience of your brand. You may choose to target your brand to everyone, but you may choose to have different images in front of different audiences. You can be the loving father with your family and the strong boss in the office.
3. Consistency
In order to build a strong personal brand you have to be consistent. Your actions, your speech and your look must harmonize. So, first decide what should be the appropriate behavior if you want to achieve the target image. Obviously you don’t want to be rude if you want to create an image of loving person for yourself.
Change your speech and comply it with your target image. Use the appropriate words and phrases. Don’t curse if you want others to know you as a polite person. That’s simple.
Your look is also very important for building your brand. Check your hair, your face, your clothes. Research and know what should be your look for your audience in order to create the image you want. Provide yourself with the appropriate look because the first thing people judge is the look, you know.

If you don’t build and support your personal brand, you will be as a small faceless company that fights for its survival because it was not positioned well. Position yourself in other people’s minds and hearts and your brand will have a long and healthy life. That’s good for you, believe me.
