How To Use Your Headphones For Better Performance

I’ve seen an interesting picture-story at FreelanceSwitch - the Freelance Freedom #29. It is about using headphones on your workplace. Maybe all of us use them and I made a small research about their use and effect of productivity and performance. Here are the results…
1. Switched off
When you put them on your head, even if they’re switched off, you are almost untouchable. People can see that you are busy and are not going to bother you with their problems. That increases your performance dramatically.
2. Buddha Bar-Type Music
Best for creative work - writing posts/emails, drawing, designing, etc.
3. R&B / Modern Hits
This is your type of music if you want/need to express your opinion - blog commenting, writing in forums, replying to emails.
4. 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. Type of Music
Use these songs for browsing, performing online researches, preparing reports or presentations.
5. Heavy Metal, Hard Rock
When you need to be hard and merciful? When you plan your day. Listen to such kind of music when you are setting your daily tasks and planning your day/week/month/life!
6. Country Music
Reading or viewing pictures need a country background for better perception.
7. BrainWave Generator
If you are so bored of your work that you don’t want to be in the office right now, best for you is to listen BrainWave Generator sounds. This is the shortest way to achieve out-of-body experience on your desk!

I will be happy if you post comments about how headphones influence on your productivity and performance. Thank you in advance.

Great ideas, William!
I’m using head phones almost all the time at work, and they really do make a huge difference. I work in an open office space with 13 people in the same “room” (which doesn’t have walls but just some dividers - and then there’s the next “room”), so the sound level can grow really quickly.
But what I found great about this post was the idea of just having headphones on your head without even playing music. I have never tried that - but I will. Great idea! Thanks!
Thank you for your comment, Jarkko!
I am using this trick with the headphones switched off all the time. It has two main advantages:
1. Makes you look busy.
2. Headphones reduce the noise level and improve your concentration.
I will be glad if you keep hanging around here!
hey William this is again an interesting post…. I guess I’ll become a regular reader here… what i liked about this post, is the idea of just having those headphones on
and people will feel that m busy and wont disturb… good one
