The Art Of Stupid Digging

The Art Of Stupid Digging

Digg.com is not just a web site any more. It has turned into a social institution. People use it for bookmarking news, to market their ideas, to have fun, to make contacts… You name it… Everyone has the dream :-) to see his/her story on the front page of Digg.com. And many succeed on daily basis. In this story I am going to give you some ideas how not to get the front page. :-) Ouch!

1. Write A Long and Boring Title

As you can see, the most dominant element for every news in Digg is the title. Usually people read only the title of the story and then digg on not-digg it. So, obviously the crucial element not to get the front page is the stupid title.

2. Your Description Is Born Dead

When writing the description just copy/paste part of the story and/or write something like “… very interesting story on iPhone”. Nobody will notice your news. Sorry! :-(

3. Post In a Wrong Category

If you wrote/found a very interesting story about cooking cakes, your first shot should be to submit it in “World & Business / Business & Finance” or “Science / Space” categories. You know that wherever the story has been published - if it is an interesting one - it will get the front page… Wroong! If you don’t respect the topics of Digg they won’t respect you, too. This a very good way to forget about the front page.

4. Don’t Network / Communicate With Other Users

Don’t comment. Don’t digg other people’s stories. Don’t add friends to your profile… Don’t dream about the front page. :-)

5. Spam! Spam! Spam!

Post 20-30 stories daily. Post crap… And watch the results.

***

I can continue writing anti-advices all day long but I think I’ve got the idea. Digg.com is a living community and you have to consider that if you want to become one of its famous members. Post quality staff, put outstanding titles and communicate with others. You will get the front page. I promise! :-)

Digg and Stumbleupon are becoming more saturated with advertisements… For me, It’s a waste of bandwidth posting your site their…just my 2 cents

Yes Raden, you are right - Digg and Stumbleupon are saturated with advertisements.

They need valuable content to be posted/bookmarked… Do they succeed? I cannot tell.
