A Short Glossary of Productivity - Part I

Short Glossary of Productivity

One of the crucial parts of Double Salary System (the subject of OneJobTwoSalaries.com blog) is boosting your productivity. So I decided to research and prepare a short glossary of productivity as it is described in my book. I will spread it among few posts in order to be easier to find the information you need. Here is the first part of this glossary.

Goal

A description of what you want to achieve which has the following main attributes:

  • Title - essence of the goal.
  • Deadline - when you want this goal achieved.
  • Description - exact description of the desired situation (outcome).
  • Indicators of achievement - how you are able to know that the goal is achieved. List the measures and their target values.

Planning

An activity that breaks the goal into subgoals recursively until you receive a list of doable tasks.

Task (Doable Task)

A simple action which belongs to your base skills and is simple enough so you don’t need a plan to do it. Doability is a very individual thing. For some one “create a hyperlink on your site” could be a simple doable task, but for other guy this could be an impossible mission which need a lot of research and planning.

Schedule

A timeline where all tasks from all plans (concerning all goals) of your goals structure are united for execution. The line of time is only one, you cannot live in parallel universes (yet), so to achieve multiple goals and execute multiple tasklists, you need to manage them on a single time line - the 24 hours we all have every day.

Motivation

The inner force that drives you to take action and achieve your goal. You can manage your motivation and this is one of the most important skills in your life. Believe me. Without a proper motivation, you cannot even go to the toilet :).

Action

The essence of everything. The action is the execution of your doable tasks in order to achieve your goal. Your action have to meet the following requirements:

  • Targeted - you should act towards achieving your goals. You don’t need random actions.
  • Consistent - don’t stop until you achieve your goal.
  • Aggressive - attack your goal, be passionate and desperate to achieve your goal whatever it takes.

Feedback

The ability to understand the effects and results of your action. The main information you should extract is whether your actions are moving you towards your goal or away of it.

Adaptation

The ability to change your plans and actions and harmonize them with your results and goals.

This was the first part of my productivity glossary. To be continued soon…

Good luck!
